Pond fishing with the pellet waggler
Summer has always been synonymous with sea fishing. In recent years, however, thanks to the introduction of an innovative technique imported from England, summer has also become synonymous with freshwater fishing. He doesn't fish with the pole, stream trout, spinning, but English fishing in the pond with the pellet waggler! Yes, that's right: for a few years now, in the summer there has been a craze for fishing for carp and crucian carp afloat with a method that aims to capture cyprinids in the surface layers of water. An infallible, truly deadly system that can revolutionize your way of fishing (obviously for the better), guaranteeing you excellent results in just a few hours of fishing.
The pellet waggler: everything you need to know
The float for English fishing is called a waggler. The pellet waggler is nothing more than a balsa or plastic float, designed for fishing afloat by throwing pellets with a slingshot. Upon impact with the water, the pellet waggler generates a characteristic noise which tends to attract the carp towards it. It stimulates the appetite and generates considerable interest in a very small area, right in the immediate vicinity of the float. It has a stockier body than the classic English waggler. The dimensions are decidedly small, with lead collected in the lower part and the head colored orange or with a colored antenna. The capacity varies from 2 to 10/12 grams, although the most used models are usually 6/8 grams. The fundamental difference between the pellet waggler and other floats on the market is their ability to stay perfectly in the water without having to apply any lead to the line. In other words, they are already tuned to perfection. There is no need to do anything other than build a minimal, truly essential rig and get fishing immediately!
Pellet waggler fishing equipment
Fishing with the pellet waggler is nothing more than English fishing, adapted to the summer context and surface fishing. English rods in 3 pieces of reduced size have been introduced on the market, so as to be used in carp fields and other situations in which the pellet waggler can express its best. Usually a rod for this specialty has a length of 3.60 meters (12 feet - shorter than usual) with an action that varies from 5 to 20 grams. These are rods with a conical blank, quite nervous, elastic during the cast but ready for immediate and violent strikes. As for the reel, you definitely need a medium-sized model, such as a 3,000 or 4,000 with double handle and a fast recovery ratio such as 6.2:1 or higher. We will also mount a 0.20 on the reel, capable of withstanding the stress of repeated catches, even of size.
How to make pellet waggler line
The objective of the pellet waggler is to propose the bait on the surface of the water, as if it were falling from the sky. Therefore the line must be simple, minimal, of maximum naturalness. To make it, you need to slide two/three silicone stoppers onto the mother thread. Then you need to insert the pellet waggler and stop it with two other silicone stoppers. The main line will be closed with a swivel and finally a forty/fifty centimeter terminal of 0.16/0.18 will be connected with a short shank 8/10 barbless hook. The distance between the pellet waggler and the hook must not exceed 70 centimetres. The fishing line is ready, there is no need to do anything else. Simple, within everyone's reach.
Fishing action
As soon as we arrive at the spot, we will begin to sling 4/6 mm pellets in the area where we will launch. On particularly hot days, carp and crucians will tend to rise to the surface, showing themselves by their backs or fins. Their flickering, visible to the naked eye, will be a good sign. Also bait one or two grains of corn, possibly flavored and colored, so as to create contrast with the baiting of the pellets. Launch and wait 30 seconds to a minute. If the float doesn't sink, repeat the operation: throw pellets with the slingshot, throw the float with the rod, wait. Do this until you see a violent and immediate departure of the float, right during the lowering of the bait! Strike... carp in the rod! Continue, retrieve the prey, unhook it and start again, always with the same method. Fishing with a pellet waggler is quite mechanical but, if well applied, can be a lot of fun and give unexpected satisfaction.
What are you waiting for? Go pond fishing and have fun with the pellet waggler. The technique of the summer!
